the tower of babel is a biblical explanation for the diversity of language and race spread across the earth. mankind was united with one language, and so decided to build to the heavens. god put a stop to this by scattering the population and mixing up language. some versions of the story see god actually destroy the tower. brueghel’s painting depicts an element of flawed construction (foundations still being built along side upper storeys, arches non-perpendicular to the ground), rather than a direct conflict of communication.

the drawing i’ve attached shows more examples of babel and its meaning/use. the paragraph above doesn’t feature. I was thinking of taking the tower of babel story further. feedback would be appreciated
